Controversial animator Ralph Bakshis literal adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkiens classic fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, is brought to the screen in a reverent, stilted way, with Bakshi forsaking his sharp edged animated looniness for a rotoscoped dullness.
